Guadalupe Chili Pie

Serves 8
Estimated Cooking Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
2 lb ground beef ½ tsp chili powder
1 med onion, chopped ½ tsp salt
1 Tbsp margarine One 8-oz can tomato sauce
One 15-oz can chili beans Two 6-oz pkgs cornbread mix

Directions:
  1. Brown the beef and onion in the margarine in an uncovered Dutch oven. Add the beans, chili powder, salt and sauce. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.
  2. Mix the cornbread as directed (Hint: Marie Callendar’s brand requires no eggs or milk—only water). Add cornbread mixture to the top of the meat and beans. Cover and cook for 30 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the thickest part of the cornbread comes out clean. Use approx 10 charcoal briquettes under the oven and about 15 on top.
